EEPROM Memory Expander

What do you think of a new memory expander for the TI-82, TI-83, and TI-83 Plus? It would be external and be about the size of two 9 volt batteries. Memory sizes would range from 128kb to 1mb. The memory would be accessed from the link port through an ASM program. Also there would be a SDK for the memory so ASM programs could use the memory to store massive amounts of data for extended data. EEPROM is not like RAM and does die after about 1million writes, so that would be the only disavantage. The memory expander would sell for under $30 and kits would be available also. Tell me what you think!

mmm... memory

I have no idea how difficult that would be to do, but if it works... w00t! Certainly give it a try.

We are already working on something similar here...16 MB, most likely USB computer connectivity as well as calculator linking...

Why?

Why on earth would you need 16mb of memory for a TI calculator?

WHY NOT?

If you had 16 MB of memory, you could fit about 47,934 pong variation games, assuming each pong game is 350 bytes :)

16 MB?!?! Yay!

Wow... a whole 16 MB on which to install every single program ever made for the TI-83 Plus! I want it! What fun. Disadvantage: Who likes a bulky battery pack hanging off the end of their precious TI-83 PLus?

Who would accept an ugly battery pack hanging off for 16mb? (Answer: everyone in their right mind :)

w00t!

Awesome! Something to store programs in! w00t! I'm working on a floppy disk drive for the 83 Plus (actually, just pondering right now ;)

I've been looking at the floppy drive for a few months now. I could probably pull it off if I actually had time to work with it. Now the 16 Mb expander would be nice to have if it could be made to look more like a card than a box.

With a 16MB expansion, someone could write an gameboy emulator-type program to re-route rom calls that differ between GB and TI and GB games could be put on the cartridge. Probably emulator and GB could both be on the cartridge. With a 83+SE, the processor should be fast enough, and there are a few color screen mods out there...

Why can`t you build a compact flash card adapter for Ti? The CF-Cards are very small and are cheap. So Memory up to 2Gb became possible!!! Or not???
